In a career spanning more than 30 years, Barrett has developed a uniquely diverse experience set in the Life Sciences industry. His functional roles have been in Sales, Marketing, Alliance Management, Business Development, and Product Development strategy, with notable companies including American Hospital Supply Corporation (now Baxter), DuPont Pharmaceuticals (BMS), Genentech/Roche, Quintiles/IMS (now IQVIA) and InterMune (Roche). The majority of his career has been in BioPharma; his experience includes Diagnostics, Drug/Device combinations, and Healthcare Services. 

Barrett’s most recent industry role was Vice President, Commercial Development at InterMune. This role began in May 2008 as a thirteen-month consulting engagement with the company.  In both capacities, Barrett successfully achieved the Commercial readiness assessment, development of the Strategic Commercial Plan, and build out of the Commercial Organization in preparation for the launch of InterMune's lead development asset.  An FDA Complete Response in mid-2010 delayed the U.S. approval; Barrett supported the EU Commercial Development and Launch through the end of 2011. He also conducted market assessments for Rest-of-World markets including Canada, Latin America, Asia Pacific, Russia and Turkey, and developed the Life Cycle strategy for the asset. 

Prior to InterMune, Barrett held positions in Alliance Management and Business Development at Quintiles/IMS (now IQVIA). An eleven-year tenure at Genentech included positions of increasing responsibility in Sales & Marketing, including extensive Brand Management experience.

Since leaving Intermune, Barrett has served as a Consultant/Advisor to numerous emerging healthcare companies in the areas of Commercial Strategy, Business Development and Venture-backed Company formation. 

New Product Planning and Pre-launch/Launch Commercialization are core competencies.  Barrett’s experience in specialty, orphan and ultra-orphan markets crosses a range of therapeutic areas; these include pulmonary, cardiovascular, endocrinology and diabetes, hematology, oncology, neurology, anesthesiology, surgery and critical care medicine. He also is a co-founder of a drug delivery device start-up.

Barrett has participated in the development or execution of 21 launch programs. These include: New Chemical Entities (7); follow-on indications for existing brands (3); brand product line extensions (8); injectable drug delivery devices (2); and an injectable generics business unit. 

Creative approaches to Market Access, Pricing, Reimbursement and Distribution have been central strategic imperatives to his Brand and Launch planning and execution.  Barrett had an integral role in the development and implementation of an integrated Healthcare Professional / Patient Reimbursement Assistance Program and Hub which supported specialty distribution of an orphan drug; this program became the gold standard within the industry. 

Barrett earned a BS in Business Administration - Marketing from the University of Tennessee.  His continuing education endeavors include executive programs at Kellogg Graduate School of Management and faculty engagements for industry conferences.
